Pay range: $98,444 to $123,050 per year
Hours: 35 hours per week
The Coordinator, Transportation Engineer is responsible for the delivery of senior engineering support and supervision of technical staff relating to Strathcona County and regional transportation planning, engineering and safety. This position will oversee and coordinate the delivery of transportation engineering plans and public engagement including the formulation of recommendations on project planning, prioritization, optimization, and budgeting in alignment with department and corporate business plans.
Coordinate transportation planning and engineering studies, reviews, designs, and implementation projects
Complete detailed traffic and transportation engineering assessments and reviews
Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute strategic projects and programs
Plan, schedule, and align personnel and resources to deliver timely engineering studies and technical reports
Coordinate, prioritize, and provide advanced technical expertise on traffic impact assessments, functional planning studies, and transportation design plans for internal and external consultants and stakeholders, including development circulation process
Guide and support public engagement programs and opportunities for emergent and planned traffic calming, neighbourhood renewals, and community transportation issues
Develop and manage transportation plans, including the Integrated Transportation Master Plan, Traffic Safety Strategic Plan, Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Action Plan, and Rural Road Safety Action Plan in alignment with current best practices and engineering knowledge
Coordinate and conduct field inspections and studies to assess current operating conditions to achieve engineering best practices
Review, and authenticate traffic design plans, reports, and engineering materials in compliance with Strathcona County's Permit to Practice
Prepare and present comprehensive technical reports and presentations to Executive Team, Council, and the public as required
Review and provide technical and strategic input and direction on transportation plans, including coordination with the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board, The City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation and regional stakeholders
Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Strong public speaking and presentations skills to senior administration, Council, public committees, and the general public
Knowledge of provincial and federal laws and acts including the Traffic Safety Act, Highways Development and Protection Act, Railway Safety Act and others as required
Working knowledge of the Transportation Association of Canada's Geometric Design Guide and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada, Guide to Traffic Calming, and Alberta Transportation Standards, Highway Capacity Manual, Institute of Transportation Engineers' trip generation manual, and applicable engineering standards, warrants and guidelines
Progressive understanding of planning processes and related documents such as the Municipal Government Act including, local Municipal Development Plans, Transportation Master Plans, Area Structure Plans
Understanding of capital planning and programming processes in developing annual, 10-year and long- term capital plans
Proven ability to provide dynamic leadership and supervision to a diverse group of staff in a complex
Superior project management skills including proposal and contract preparation and evaluation, scheduling and performance indicator creation and tracking
Demonstrated time management skills and ability to prioritize
The ability to determine and balance risk in decision making
Thorough analytical skills

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a P.Eng. with seven (7) years relevant experience or as a P.L.(Eng.) with nine (9) years relevant experience
Advanced and on-going courses and seminars related to traffic and transportation engineering and traffic safety an asset

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
