East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) seeks a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Materials (Geotechnical) Testing Technician II.
This is an ideal position for a person interested in the geosciences who is seeking a career in public service. Assignments will include laboratory and field testing of construction materials including soils, rock, mineral aggregates, asphaltic mixes, concrete and steel. Other duties include conducting subsurface explorations; monitoring test results; operating and maintaining instrumentation and equipment; making calculations and reports; and coordinating activities with other work units, staff and outside contractors.
Competitive candidates will have experience with MS Excel, Geosystem and gINT software, and other related applications; have a Radiation Safety and Use of the Portable Nuclear Moisture/Density Gauge certificate; ACI certifications in concrete testing; strong oral communication skills; ability to work effectively with engineering, technical, construction and field staff; ability to work independently in the field; and strong math skills. Additional experience for advanced geotechnical laboratory tests and Q/C & Q/A of the test reports such as 1-D consolidation, flexible wall permeability and tri-axial compression tests will be considered as a strong qualification.

High school diploma or its equivalent
Two years of experience in soils or materials testing, surveying, construction inspection, or equivalent materials laboratory work
A valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
Must have sufficient agility and strength to dig test holes with proper equipment
Must be able to lift and carry equipment/materials weighing up to 50-pounds
Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of geographic and climatic conditions
Must be willing to work overtime as needed
