GENERAL PURPOSE: This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and plays a key role in transforming the finance functions at Sound Transit. The Financial Transformation Director identifies capabilities required in the future-state organization and collaboratively drive the optimization of processes across the function and help to redefine how Finance supports the business in achieving near-term and long-term objectives. The position works side-by-side with the finance leadership team, IT, Strategic Business Office and other business partners in designing the Finance transformation roadmap and delivering continuous improvement projects across facets of culture, people development, and system and process changes in Finance, and leads a small team of professionals with expertise on process improvement and financial systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
• Leading the review of finance processes and organization, identifying opportunities to enhance finance partnering and reduce transactional effort to deliver an organization with improved efficiency and effectiveness, and driving execution of the Finance Transformation program including roadmap design, service delivery model, business case, project milestones and deliverables while incorporating best practices and technology solutions. • Understanding and analyzing current business processes across finance. • Recommending business process changes based on experience, analysis, best practices and feedback. • Providing leadership to project teams including direct and indirect resources, business partners and technology partners. • Partnering with IT leadership and other key stakeholders to identify and establish information requirements, data strategies and systems to improve business processes and analytics. • Establishing strong links with IT project teams, Strategic Business Office, and other business partners to ensure alignment of the transformation roadmap. • Working with cross functional teams to align opportunities for improvement. • Designing complex processes and ensuring process mapping is complete. • Building a roadmap and prioritizing process changes to implement based on cost benefit analysis, dependencies with other initiatives or systems, and organizational bandwidth. • In partnership with other finance leaders, leading change management activities associated with process improvement, engaging leadership and stakeholders to obtain support to ensure organizational and cross-functional alignment for successful implementation. • Developing performance metrics to measure the impact of implemented process changes successes. • It is the responsibility of all employees to follow the Agency safety rules, regulations, and procedures pertaining to their assigned duties and responsibilities, which could include systems, operations, and/or other employees. • It is the responsibility of all employees to integrate sustainability into everyday business practices. • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelors’ Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field, and eight years of leadership experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in management consulting preferred.
Preferred Licenses or Certifications: CPA, MBA
Required Knowledge and Skills: • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills. • 5+ years demonstrated experience leading business process transformations • Solid understanding of financial processes • Significant experience in process design, process engineering, process mapping and process improvement • Will have a demonstrated track-record of success managing complex cross-functional Finance, IT, or business transformation programs. Experienced in end-to-end business process transformation, service delivery models and the integration of technology to optimize organizational performance. • Proven track record in creating change management strategies for business transformations • Strong project management skills utilized in large scale transformation programs. • Be comfortable and capable of working with and analyzing large data sets across multiple systems • Experience with automation and system enhancement or implementation • Experience with Agile/Lean/Six Sigma/Kaizen or other approaches preferred • Bring a progressive mindset to act as a visible change leader • Be comfortable scoping solutions to complex, ambiguous, and challenging issues • Ability to understand and navigate through multiple business functions • Strategic and pragmatic with the ability to carry an idea through execution- balances clear strategic thinking and accountability in execution to deliver results • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels will enable meaningful engagement and collaboration and the delivery of shared goals and objectives. • Operates with integrity, transparency and humility • High level of dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. • Ability to manage resources and multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Balance the perfect with the pragmatic to reach outcomes that move the organization forward quickly and effectively
