The City of Gresham is pleased to be recruiting for a motivated engineering professional to join our team as an Engineering Technician III, in the Development Engineering Division of the Department of Environmental Services (DES), in a full-time capacity. The Development Engineering section's core business is to provide direction and support to Developers who will be constructing or utilizing public infrastructure as a part of their development. Development Engineering represents DES' Water, Wastewater, Watershed, and Transportation Divisions interests to the development community. Development Engineering collaborates with the City's Planners as applications are submitted, with the City's Building Department as projects are constructed, and customers at all stages of the process.
This position performs technical work related to civil engineering, specifically the review of privately engineered and constructed public improvements needed as part of the development of a property for commercial, industrial or residential uses. This work requires the ability to apply technical knowledge to projects and assignments. The office work entailed in this position involves technical research and review and may involve frequent public contact. This role requires someone who can think outside the box to develop inventive solutions to address the complex needs of all stakeholders involved in the development process.
The Engineering Technician III position provides engineering knowledge, abilities and experience to the Development Engineering section of DES. This role often becomes the steppingstone to an Engineering Specialist position. Our section fosters an environment that requires independent capabilities but supports a collaborative and team focused approach to work. The work performed by this position requires technical knowledge and experience, and frequent public contact.
What you will get to do:
Support the Development Engineering Specialists by researching and preparing reports related to public infrastructure as a part of the land use process, performing public facilities plan and plat reviews, and document preparation and review.
Present requirements and processes at pre-application, pre-design and pre-construction meetings.
Respond to internal and external customer inquiries related to public infrastructure development and process, including system development charges, as-builts, development process and timelines, and Public Works Standards.
Juggle competing timelines and priorities of internal and external customers and the public.
Proactively suggest and implement process improvements to enhance customer satisfaction as it relates to review times, accuracy and consistency.
Complete special assignments as directed by the Development Engineering Manager.
College level coursework in civil engineering or related field and
Four (4) years progressively responsible technical engineering work, including the use of computer aided design equipment (CAD).
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field and One (1) year of progressively responsible technical engineering work, including the use of computer aided design equipment (CAD).
Engineering Intern (EIT/FE) certification
