Northeastern University seeks a creative and highly collaborative leader to serve as dean of the College of Engineering and continue the extraordinary expansion of a college and university whose scholarship and research are increasingly impactful on a global scale. The dean will be a strategic thinker, connecting Northeastern’s largest college with major initiatives and research thrusts across an outstanding and comprehensive academic enterprise that spans nine colleges and schools and campuses in three countries. The dean will ensure that the college continues strong support and mentorship for its students, staff, and faculty and promotes the experiential learning traditions that have defined Northeastern University for more than a century.
The dean will join Northeastern University as it continues on an astonishing upward trajectory, achieving tremendous advances in academic and research rankings and unprecedented growth in student enrollment and selectivity, faculty and staff numbers, and physical resources. Northeastern’s annual research funding has increased from $49 million to $162 million since 2006, driven by the work of world-class faculty, physical expansion that creates opportunities for collaboration, and a robust and diverse array of research institutes and centers. Its signature co-op program has expanded in popularity beyond the undergraduate student body, creating a unique learning experience that attracts top students from around the world.
Located in the heart of Boston, with the world’s largest cluster of bio- and high-tech industries and a storied tradition of learning and discovery, the university is ideally positioned to advance the boundaries of knowledge, create and define new fields of application and economic impact, enrich the lives of students the world over and from all walks of life, and find interdisciplinary solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. The dean will lead a college that is central to this success, overseeing more than 200 faculty and 8,000 students across five academic departments and 16 research centers funded by eight different federal agencies.
