Assistant Professor in Food Engineering (Position #128473) Washington State University
The Department of Biological Systems Engineering (College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences) seeks a 12-month, 75%, permanent, full time tenure-track position in the rank of Assistant Professor in food engineering. The position has primarily research and teaching responsibilities with the expectation of contributing to outreach and extension activities. The successful candidate is expected to establish a record of excellence in both scholarly and educational activities, as well as competitive and independent research and teaching programs. The candidate will write proposals to secure extramural funds from state, regional and national grant sources, private foundations and companies. The program must be based on stakeholder needs and effectively integrate research with other disciplines such as electrical engineering, food, materials, computer and health sciences. The candidate will disseminate research findings by publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and delivering presentations at scientific conferences and stakeholder meetings, and using web-based and other communication platforms. Other responsibilities include advising graduate and undergraduate students, mentoring student activities/organizations, and serving the university, college, department and professional organizations.

Required Qualification: Earned Ph.D. in Food Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, or closely related field by the time of hire/offer; Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in food engineering and sensor technology, food science, or related engineering field.
Desired Qualifications: Minimum two (2) years of postdoctoral or professional/industry work experience in related engineering field. Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in sensing technology related to food safety and quality; Demonstrated experience in developing and/or delivering undergraduate and graduate courses; Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with industry, regulatory and governmental agencies; Evidence of grantsmanship and project management; Evidence of scholarship through publications in peer reviewed journals and conference presentations; Record of active participation in academic and/or professional organizations.
