The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-D), a regional campus of the University of Michigan located in the city of Dearborn, Michigan, seeks an experienced leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The Chair will work in close partnership with the Dean and the other department chairs during a time of unprecedented growth within the Department, College, and the University. The new Chair will demonstrate excellence in leadership and effective management by addressing the next opportunities for growth and impact.

Reporting to the Dean of Engineering and Computer Science, the Chair will be: an intellectual leader; a distinguished teacher, scholar, innovator; and an academic visionary in engineering who brings a passion for students, education, research, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate: effective interpersonal and managerial skills; ability to pursue departmental goals; a high interest in strengthening the mechanical, bio and automotive- engineering programs through innovative teaching, research and improved facilities; promoting and sustaining doctoral programs through funded research and collaborative projects; developing relationships with industry by promoting graduate programs and research projects; and enhancing graduation rate of undergraduates through improvement of incoming student quality, academic support and development of academic activities.
