The BIORESOURCE and AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, invites applications for a tenure?track, academic year position. Starting date is negotiable, but on or before September 7, 2018, is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in: Food Processing Plant Systems Analysis; Food Safety; Water Recycle System Design; Organic and Non-Organic Disinfection System Design; and engineering topics including Biochemistry. Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, and presentations) in an area of expertise directly related to Agricultural and Food Engineering. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities. Scholarly activities and interest should center on application of the teaching topics as they pertain to the food and dairy processing industries in California.

Required Qualifications/Specialized Skills: Doctorate degree in a relevant agricultural or food engineering discipline, or a related field is required. Applicants should have a combination of teaching, industry, practical and/or research experience in the food processing field. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the general public is essential. Must demonstrate commitment to inclusivity and diversity. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills: Industry experience is preferred. Expertise in agricultural engineering design of food processing plants or similar systems analysis with an emphasis on water conservation and treatment is preferred. Previous work experience in the field of food or process system engineering is desirable. This position requires an individual who has demonstrated the ability to provide undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on engineering education in a multidisciplinary, systems-based environment. Experience with online course development and online teaching preferred. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable. Candidates who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, are preferred.
